From Alan Dick in the UK: The background is that there are currently requirements on UK suppliers to carry out inspection of the meter and associated equipment at least every two years. This has been seen as a barrier to introduction of AMR and, as part of a review of supplier obligations and a coincident consultation on innovative metering, it has been suggested that this requirement may be removed. The UKRPA is not happy with this and has made a submission (attached) to the UK Regulator. We also dispute a suggestion that installation of AMR could cut theft by 25% (no justification given for this figure).

“Free Electric” is a “screen dump” of an ebay item described as an informational document purported to explain how to lower your power bill by tampering with the meter (the document for sale can be found below). It was removed from auction on 06/27/2003 by ebay at our request.
